One nightmare has ended for Berbicians; another is about to begin

The New Amsterdam and Rosignol Ferry Stellings (especially the former) are two places at which I loath to be. These are two venues where anything and everything goes.
On a recent visit to these venues, I was filled to the brim with disgust. The following day, the Berbice River Bridge would’ve been opened, so I said to myself that that had to be the last pathetic experience I was going to have travelling through these two stellings.
At the Rosignol Stelling, the situation is dire. There are heaps of rotting, stinking, disgusting rubbish all over the banks of the road to as far as the market. Pigs and other animals feast on this rubbish, much to the disgust of passengers in vehicles joining the line to cross with the ferry. And the stench is unbearable. Litter abounds at these stellings. Shame on those persons who continue to show disregard for the environment; they have the stellings in the conditions they are presently in.
Several beggars are at these stellings, especially Rosignol, begging and harassing commuters. What nonsense!
Loud, vulgar and obscene music is heard from every corner on the stelling roads. Children are around when this is going on.
Birds seek haven under the Rosignol Stelling roof and drop their litter anytime and anyhow down below, right on the heads and faces of passengers and on the benches there. I really can’t be more descriptive than that, Editor.
It is my belief that public places like these should not have persons selling alcohol, nor should loud, obscene music be played there. But this is Guyana. What a sight all of this must be for persons arriving in Guyana! These stellings, most naturally, would be the first places they would encounter upon accessing Region Six.
What an impression! We continue to be ignorant, and things never seem to be changing.
Now, with the Berbice River Bridge being opened, it is hoped that the commuters would divert their travelling through the bridge. I can’t wait for the day when the stellings are closed completely and persons would stop frequenting these unsightly areas. It’s a real unsightly poster of Guyana, and more particularly Berbice. It shows a poor image of what the Ancient County is about.
The nightmare experience at these stellings, along with their filthy environs, does reflect the quality of service given there from times past. That nightmare, I daresay, has ended.
But the story doesn’t end there. A new one has arrived for Berbicians. I shall discuss that next.
