A serving member of the Guyana Police Force and a former member of the force are to appear in court, charged with causing “terror with explosives”.
The charges were instituted after the two were arrested at the recently concluded Kashif and Shanghai football tournament on Monday last.
According to sources, the charges came after Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo said that the persons were being a nuisance to the spectators, among whom was the Head of State.
The duo was brought to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, to be placed before the magistrate. However, this move was delayed, because the accused came late and the magistrate “had finished for the day”.
The matter has since been shifted to the Providence Magistrate’s Court, because of the district in which the incident occurred. The duo is expected to make their court appearance on Monday.
The incident occurred on New Year’s Day at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, when the annually held Kashif and Shanghai football tournament was held.
As the football tournament was underway, the squibs were thrown from different directions onto the field, by persons unknown.
