Police may know by next week whether charges will be laid in the mob killing of electrician Hardel Haynes.
A police official revealed yesterday that investigators have sent a report on the case to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The official also confirmed that some of the persons who were identified as Haynes’s assailants are still in custody.
Haynes, of Spurwing Drive, South Ruimveldt, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he was beaten by a mob in East La Penitence.
The residents had reportedly mistaken him for a burglar who had broken into a woman’s house at Perai Square, East La Penitence.
The badly beaten man was reportedly dropped off in front of the East La Penitence Police Station, and a rank on duty was simply told that he, Haynes, was a thief.
