Albouystown, Tiger Bay, East Front Road & Globe Yard into semis
Tiger Bay’s Shawn Bishop being double teamed by these two Holmes Street players on Tuesday night.
It’s now down to the battle of the last four in the Guinness ‘Greatest of De Street’ Football tournament following intense and exciting quarter final play on Tuesday night at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
Fans braved the rainy weather to come out in support of their teams of course they were well equipped for the elements above.
As it turned out, Albouystown, Tiger Bay, East Front Road and Globe Yard all proved that they were stronger than their respective opponents as they booked their places in the last four.
In the feature game which was a thriller, Albouystown with the likes of Andrew Murray at the helm had to pull out all the stops against the Travis Grant led North Last entrance side whom they eventually needled in extra time.
It took a Renault Fraser 32 minute effort to separate the two sides in the ding dong battle, by far, the longest lasting game of the night.
Hope Street Tiger Bay, behind a brace from Shawn Bishop (6 & 12) and a lone strike by Solomon Austin (9) made light work of Holmes Street whom they sent packing 3-0. East Front Road made light work of East La Penitence defeating them 4-2.
Seon Mc Kenzie in the 5th, Andy Duke two minutes later, Christopher Williams 13th and Shaka Jones in the 14th minute combined efforts to see their team into the semi finals. East La Penitence got both their goals from Devon Allen in the 10th and 16th minute.
Tuesday’s opening match up set the tone for what turned out to be a satisfying evening when Globe Yard, compliments of a double each from Sherwin Grimes and Earl Peters rebounded after trailing 2-0 to trounce Alexander Village 4-2.
Quincy Bourne (8) and Sheldon Gurrick (11) had given Alexander Village the early lead but Grimes and Peters combined efforts to wrest the take the game away from their grasp in fine style.
Grimes was on target in the 12th and 13th while Peters’ efforts came in the 17th and 19th minute.
In the lone exhibition game, Oasis Water defeated Guinness Bar 1-0.
Semi final rivalry on this evening at the National Park will see Hope Street Tiger Bay Hope Street-Tiger Bay battling East Front Road from 21:00 hrs with the other clash between Globe Yard and their Albouystown rivals at 22:00hrs.
A number of exhibition matches featuring teams from East Coast and East Bank among others will be played with kick off time set for 19:00hrs. The grand final and third place matches are set for Saturday at the same venue.
