Defeat Sans Souci by 65 runs in final
Good Success Sports club defeated Sans Souci Sports Club by 65 runs to win the final of the Busta 40 overs cricket competition at the Wakenaam Community Sports Ground in Good Success.

Managing director of Guyana Beverage Inc. Mr. Robert Selman (right) presents the winner’s trophy to Captain Mustak Mohamed.
On a day blessed with glorious sunshine the home team won the toss and took first strike on a track with preparation moisture and soon found themselves in trouble as pacer Roopnarine Persaud had opener Mustak Mohamed (01) caught by wicketkeeper Wayne Osborne to leave the score at 12 – 1 in the 4th over. Wazeer Mohamed then joined Iftikar Mohamed and they took the score to 39 before the latter was run out for 17.
Komal Persaud, who was promoted to No. 4, then entertained the crowd briefly with a quick 22 before he was bowled by off spinner Vickram Ramnarine with the score on 84.
Nazeer Mohamed then joined his younger brother Wazeer and the pair put together 59 for the 4th wicket partnership with sensible batting and running between the wickets. Wazeer, who was severe on anything short, soon bought up his fifty with a single to mid off and he celebrated by hitting pacer Oyono Sampson for four over cover before Sampson had him caught at point for a well played 58.
Good Success then lost Abdool Salim (14) Chandreka Ragnauth (05) in the hunt for quick runs but Nazeer who bought up his fifty in the final over and Imran Khan (05n.o) saw them to 202 for 6 off their allotted 40 overs. Vickram Ramnarine and Oyono Sampson picked up two wickets each and Persaud one.
Sans Souci began their reply in business like fashions with Wayne Osborne and Sampson taking the attack to the opening bowlers putting together 40 runs for the 1st wicket partnership off just 6 overs as the visitors looked on course for victory.
Osborne, who was surprisingly omitted from Essequibo 20/20 team, was eventually caught at short midwicket for 28 (2×6, 2×4) as he miss hit a full toss off left arm spinner Imran Khan, who also bowled Varounie Sasepaul (09) behind his back as the batsman attempted to sweep the spinner.
Sampson was then joined by his fellow Essequibo 20/20 teammate Roopnarine Persaud and the pair continued to attack the bowling adding 25 for the 2nd wicket partnership before Sampson was brilliantly caught at short mid wicket by Abdool Salim off Khan for 23 (3×6) to leave the score at 85 for 3 off 15 overs.
Khan ten trapped Heera Sukram (03) LBW and had Jaggernauth Manbodh (01) stumped as Sans Souci slipped to 90 – 5.
Persaud however continued to play his shots and soon bought up his well deserved fifty which contained five fours and two sixes with a single to fine leg to keep their victory hopes alive.
With the score at 118 for 5 Persaud was brilliantly run out compliments of a smart piece of fielding by Wazeer Mohamed at cover. When he departed, so did Sans Souci’s victory hopes as the visitors lost their last four wickets for 19 runs to be all out for 137 in 24 overs.
Khan finished with 5 – 28 from 8 overs while Abdool Salim supported with 3 – 2 from 2 overs.
Wazeer Mohamed who collected the prize for the highest individual score in the final was adjudged the man-of-the-match while Imran took the awards for the most wickets in the final and the competition.
Roopnarine Persaud collected the prize for scoring the most runs in the competition. Sans Souci and Good Success collected the runner’s up and winning trophies respectively while each members of the winning team received a medal.
