Guyana’s leading supplier of cement has pitched its “Cement Tent” in Bath Settlement/Waterloo, West Coast Berbice. The “Cement Tent” is intended to educate builders and home owners about the quality of TGI cement as well as the best ways to use cement in construction.
Speaking at the exhibition, TGI Plant Manager Mark Bender said that, “The company is committed to providing a quality product in the marketplace. We have a history as a company of a quality regime, a testing regime and excellent after-sales service.”
Residents of the community witnessed mixing demonstrations, and got building and cement purchasing advice. Some of them even won prizes, such as wheel barrows and trowels, in the TGI Cement Tent competitions.
Also speaking at the exhibition was visiting TCL General Manager from Trinidad and Tobago, Satnarine Bachew, who said, “Cement is vital to building construction and the TCL Group is the leading producer and marketer of cement and ready-mix products in the Caribbean. We are firmly committed to our goal of ‘Building Caribbean Excellence’ for our customers, employees, shareholders and wider Caribbean communities.”
Bachew added, “TCL is committed to providing quality cement, and as such the TGI Cement Tent initiative is important because it aids customers in producing quality projects.”
As a part of its community outreach, TGI gave back to the community by donating a bus shed, of which the residents of Bath Settlement/Waterloo were very appreciative.
NDC Chairman Cecil Ramdat, who received the bus shed on behalf of the community, said: “The construction of the bus shed is very important and timely, since a new school has been recently opened in the community, and the students will benefit greatly from its use as they go to and from their classes.”
An added bonus to the Cement Tent is the display of the step-by-step video demonstration by Trinidad and Tobago Concrete Technologist Danny Jairam of the correct procedure for mixing cement.
To date, the TGI Cement tents have been pitched in Diamond, Parfait Harmonie and Paradise, and will soon be in Rose Hall Town, Tuschen and Bartica.
