With the second segment of the Inter-Guianas Games just under a week away, all the teams scheduled to participate are in full preparation mode according to an official from the National Sports Commission who is responsible for overlooking the teams training.
The Games, which will be held in French Guiana from November 28-30, will see the host take on Suriname and Guyana in three sports disciplines namely basketball, volleyball and cycling where both male and female athletes will compete.
According to the official, all the teams in both categories have been short listed and are busy preparing under the watchful eyes of their respective coaches.
The basketball squads are: (Males)- Akeem Kanhai, Orin Rose, Richard Mohandatt, Tyrone Hamid, Shelroy Thomas, Yannick Dundas, Stravin Ettienne and Travis Stewart, while the females will come from Siana Forte, Minnifa Fox, Ginelle Ifill, Ouandie Small, Monique Daniels, Robyn Thomas, Tamara Hunter, Telesha Samuels, Gabriel Chalmers and Low Quantor Gibson.
The officials are: Julian Haynes (Male Coach), Wayne Toney Bowman (Manager), Abdulla Hamid (Female Coach), Mark Agard (Assistant Coach) and Patrick Mohan (Referee).
The volleyball teams are: (Males)- Tristan Bacchus, Satesh Seenauth, Jared Khingree, Shemroy Ross, Richard Samaroo, Nandlall Ramdhan, Rashaad Razak, Jamal Duncan, Tavel Gibson, Quacy Matheson, Dwayne Bagot and Corwin Richards, while the females are- Sheena Farias, Leanna Miller, Naketa Austin, Daniella Martin, Iambie Ackeela Jones, Ronette Adams, Renuka Seepersaud, Tiffany Whittington, Michelle Subrattie, Dinelle Joseph, Roxanna Rigby and Latoya Lewis.
The officials are: Levi Nedd and Randy Adams (Coaches), Marlon Pearson (Referee), Trevor Smith (Manager), Dexter Hoppie and Lennox Rowe (Assistant Coaches).
The cycling team comprises (Males) – Christopher Holder, Geron Williams, Enzo Matthews and Chris Persaud, while the females are Marcia Dick and Naomi Singh. The officials are: Malcolm Sonaram (Coach) and William Howard (Manager).
Meanwhile, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony met with members of the media yesterday to apprise them of the contingent’s preparations.
Meanwhile, Director of Sport Neil Kumar, who is Head of Delegation, was expected to leave the country last evening, while athletes and officials are scheduled to depart tomorrow and return next Tuesday.
Other members of the official party are: Keith French (Manager), Gervy C. Harry (Administration /Logistics Manager), Lavern Fraser-Thomas (Chaperon) and Debita Harripersaud (Physiotherapist).
