Floodlights females triumph, men loose
Last Friday night, the Thomas Land venue of the Malteenoes Sports Club came alive with the staging of the first female softball cricket match under floodlights.
The Floodlights female team produced a win in their debut challenge, while the men did not fair so well, losing to the Guyana Karate College in a fund raising programme.
The night started with the Floodlights females winning the toss and batted first making 99 for 7 in their allotted 12 overs with Donnet Ritchie top scoring with 38 and was well supported by Gaitree Jagdeo 18, Depika Ramoutar 12. Parbattie Singh was the best bowler for the Guyana Karate College taking 2 wickets for 12 runs.

GKC was off to a flying start when the replied due to some wayward bowling from the floodlights females, but they eventually tighten up and restrict the GKC to 81 for 8 of their allotted 12 overs. Alysa Xavier was very impressive with 24, Shonella Klass made 17, Anjanie Persaud 11. Gaitree Jagdeo was the best bowler for Floodlights for her economical spell.
In the men’s encounter, GKC batting first made 157 for 8 of their allotted 20 overs, with very useful contribution coming from Pradeep Abdul 32, Fidel Singh 31, Shane Seebaran 25 and skipper Reaz Hussain 32. Mike Singh was the best bowler for Floodlights with 3 wickets for 24 runs.
When Floodlights took the crease, their innings were in early trouble, losing their two chief batters Ricky Deonarain and Sheik Mohammed cheaply.
They eventually were all out for 110 in the final overs with Kamal Seebaran top scoring with 26.
The chief destroyer for GKC were Farouk Abbas capturing 4 wickets for 14 runs and man-of-the-match Reaz Hussain 4 for 16.
Despite the Floodlights men loosing they were again generous to their rivals and donated $106,000 to the Guyana Karate College. These two matches were held as a fundraiser for GKC and all 20 trophies were sponsored by Automotive Art of Charlotte and Cummings Street. All medals for the female team were sponsored by Derick Auto Spares of Regent Street.
