Ravens defeated Sparwin by 8 runs to capture the Sheriff Memorial 20/20 cricket title last Sunday at the Anna Regina centre ground in North Essequibo.
Ravens batted first and made 116 for 7 off their allotted 20 overs. Mahendra Nauth Bennet top scored with 23 and Laxmikant Narine supported with 18, while Sahadeo Persaud and Uvendra Balgobin took two wickets each for Sparwin.
In reply Sparwin fell 8 runs short of the target ending on 108 for 9 in 20 overs. Vishwanauth Lall and Navin Bahadur scored 23 and 21 respectively as man-of-the-match Timor Rambarran captured 3 – 13 for the winners.
Elroy Stephney with 210 runs and Christopher Bluchan with 19 wickets collected the awards for the best batsman and bowler respectively in the competition.
The competition was played in memory of Mr. Sheriff Khan, a former businessman of the Essequibo Coast. (Zaheer Mohamed)
