The Annual Inter-Services Athletics Championships, which is being conducted after an absence since 1998, will be held tomorrow October 22 and Friday October 24 at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
The four Services participating in the track and field competition are the Guyana Defence Force, the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Prison Service and the Guyana Fire Service. The Guyana Police Force is the defending champion.
The Championships will be held under the theme “Building Confidence Through Sports” with the heats being run-off tomorrow and the finals on Friday commencing at 10:30hrs with a march past of the competing teams and officials.
The 10km road relay race of the Inter-Services Athletics Championships was held on Sunday October 19 from the Police Sports Club, around Georgetown, to Conversation Tree, ECD, and back.
The Guyana Police Force Team emerged the winner in a time of 34 mins. 27 secs; followed by the Guyana Defence Force in 36 mins. 31 secs; the Guyana Prison Service in 38 mins. 37 secs and the Guyana Fire Service in 39 mins. 36 secs.
The athletics meeting promises to be exciting and highly competitive with the GPF out to retain their Champion Service title.
Fifty-two (52) events are slated for the Athletics Championships which include six (6) invitational track and four (4) invitational cycling events.
