Veteran speedster Stanley Ming poses with the new Go-Kart, while his Senior Technician Fazal Azeem looks on.
There is a an old axiom that says ‘Action speaks louder than words’, well that is exactly what veteran motor racer Stanley Ming has demonstrated with the acquisition of a brand new Italian T&M engine for his Shifter Kart.
Ming, who will be making a return to go-kart racing after a 2-year hiatus recently, installed the engine with the aim of being more competitive at the upcoming Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club November 2 Meeting, at the South Dakota Circuit.
The former motor car and bike racer disclosed to Kaieteur Sport that the new engine is similar to the one used by Canadian Julianna Chivotti, who dominated the events last year after having a decisive advantage of around 10-15 hp than the other karts.
“This engine will certainly make us a lot quicker this time and fans can expect a day of keen racing with the anticipated of between 45-46 hp on a fast South Dakota Circuit,” Ming said.
“All the karts will be using the T&M engines and the likes of Shane Ally, Jerry Max Gouveia, Marcus Fiedtkou and Dylan Fields could pose a formidable challenge to me.”
Ming said he was not certain if the two young daredevils Stefan and Kristian Jeffrey will be here since they are attending colleges in Canada, but reckoned that the ones here are just as competitive.
Just to emphasise its value to the sport, Ming mentioned that current Formula One points leader Lewis Hamilton was once the European kart champion before he graduated to cars, adding that the karts can go really fast and were it not for the implementation of the chicane at the South Dakota Circuit, some of them might be clocking times similar to that of the Group 4 cars.
“We are clearly faster in the turns and just below their times and the only advantage they have is in the straightway.”
Ming revealed that at no time did he give up the sport, but it was more a case of his business needing more of his attention.
He, however, indicated that he would like to train the younger generation like he did to Stefan and Robert Hiscock.
The veteran speedster has already started getting in some seat time and seems confident of doing well.
