The Guyana National Karate Team received a much needed financial boost from GuyOil – Castrol in response to a request from the Guyana Japan Karate Association for assistance in sending the team to participate in the ISKF World Shoto Cup Tournament.

The tournament will be held in Canada from October 8 – 13.
Last Tuesday at their head office, Brands Manager, Leonard Khan, presented a cheque for $200,000 to the Guyana Japan Karate Association.
After the presentation, Khan and the Company Secretary, Abdool Kadir wished the team all the best in the tournament and hoped that some success as far as winning medals and making new friends in sport would be achieved.
Vice-chairman of the GJKA, Sensei Amir Khouri and Team Manager, Colin Ming both expressed the association’s gratitude for the assistance and posited that although the team is somewhat underexposed internationally, there is great potential for some medals once the members are able to keep their focus and give it their best.
Two years ago in the Caribbean Championships, current team members David Hardy and Nathalie Gibson medalled in the adult division while Samuel Ming, Chantelle Sewett and Kristina Cheeks medalled in the youth division.
The Team wings out tomorrow and return on Tuesday October 14.
