A Vreed-en-Hoop businesswoman was forced to hand over a substantial sum of cash and other valuables to a bandit who doused her with gasoline and threatened to set her alight.
Zaimul Sookram, 29, of 136 New Road, Vreed en Hoop, West Coast Demerara, was robbed last Saturday by a masked man who entered her home at around 10:00 hours.
Kaieteur News understands that Sookram and her husband had gone to the Meadow Bank wharf to conduct business and had returned home with a large amount of cash.
Sookram’s husband subsequently left the home and she was alone preparing lunch when the masked man confronted her.
According to a source, the man ordered Sookram to hand over “the million dollars” that they had garnered from their business transactions earlier that day.
When Sookram replied that she had no money, the bandit picked up a bottle of gasoline and poured the contents on her while threatening to light her afire.
Sookram became afraid and went into her bedroom and handed over the cash to the bandit. The intruder tied her to a chair, and then made good his escape.
The matter was reported but no one has been arrested so far.
