The Demerara Cricket Board has congratulated Demerara, Guyana and West Indies middle order batman Shivnarine Chanderpaul who was recently named as the first West Indian to win the ICC’s 2008 Cricketer of the Year Award.
In a message to Chanderpaul, the DCB expressed its congratulations, deep admiration and love to the outstanding Guyanese.
The DCB release stated that Chanderpaul has kept the flag of Guyana and the West Indies flying proudly even as the West Indies team struggle at the International level, adding that it is an honour for Chanderpaul, as a Guyanese to win the prestigious award named after the great Sir Garfield Sobers.
“While Chanderpaul’s award is based on his performances on the field the DCB acknowledges the talent, tenacity, selflessness and commitment that the Guyanese left-handed batsman has shown throughout his career. This is an example that our youth and people should emulate in their daily lives,” the DCB noted
“The President, executives and members of the DCB joins with all Guyanese in congratulating Chanderpaul and we pray that he continues with his wonderful achievements on and off the field,” the DCB concluded.
