Old Fort ‘B’ pulled off two more draws against GCC Spartans and Everest ‘B’ to take the top spot in the B division table with 5 points from their three matches.
Western Dragons and Carib Degenerates sit a close joint second with 4 points each from 2 matches, while the Everest ladies have secured four points of their own, but from three matches.
Old Fort with a goal handicap of 3 had to come from behind to catch the young GCC Spartans who enjoyed a 6 goal handicap.
They got their goals through a double from Tony Cole and one each from Teon Joaquin and Michael Jack and at one stage seemed destined for victory, but were denied when Ashley DeGroot pulled one back for the Spartans with just two minutes left on the clock to leave the scores tied at 7-7.
In their other encounter against Everest ‘B’ where both teams begun dead even at 3-3, they surged to a 3 goal advantage and led 8-5 with a Tony Cole smashing in a hat-trick, while Delon Williams and Dwayne Allen added one apiece.
However, complacency stepped in and the young Everest ‘B’ gradually clawed their way back into the match to scrape a draw.
Quillon Williams netted a double, while single strikes came from Travis McKenzie, Andrew Stuart and Jason Hoyte.
Both senior ladies sides suffered tough losses early in the evening as the Everest Hikers fell to the Carib Degenerates 12 – 8 and GCC Tigers lost to Western Dragons 10-5.
Timothy Jonas meted out the lions share of the blows to the Hikers with his 5-goal tally, while Gregory Sills and Triston Gomes added two goals each and they were supported by one each from Rawl Davson and Ivor Thompson. The Hikers goals were scored by Maria Munroe, Vashima Bourne, Avonda James and Cora Towler.
The GCC Tigers managed just a single goal by Shebiki Baptiste in their loss to the Dragons, who got a hat-trick from Deon Branford. Andel and Adrian Sampson and Deon Carew each tucked in a brace, while Trason Corbin netted one to complete their tally.
The most entertaining match of the evening was between Everest ladies and Western Dragons. With the heavily favoured Dragons starting with a four-goal handicap in favour of the Hikers, both teams seemed intent on earning the full three points up for grabs.
Despite the speed and pressure of the fitter Dragons, the Hikers ladies fought bravely and showed good composure throughout the game to hold them to a 4-4 draw.
Selwyn Brandt and Adrian Sampson each scored doubles for the Dragons to even the scores as the Hikers began the match with a 4 goal advantage.
No matches were played last night in the ‘A’ division, Everest and Old Fort lead the table with three points each followed by GCC and Shakatan, yet to record points.
In the ‘B’ division, Old Fort ‘B’ leads the table on 5 points from 3 matches followed by the Carib Degenerates and Western Dragons with 4 points from 2 matches, Everest ladies on 4 points from 3 matches, GCC Spartans with 2 points from 2 matches, Everest ‘B’ with 1 point from 2 matches, while the GCC Tigers have so far failed to secure a point from two matches.
