Members of the House of Israel, located at Light and Sixth Streets, Alberttown, were thrown into grief yesterday morning, as the lifeless body of one of their own was found hanging from a mango tree.
The discovery was made sometime around 5:30 hours by one of the members. The man has since been identified as 45-year-old Godfrey Haynes. Kaieteur News was told that Haynes grew up at the House of Israel but left for a number of years.
However, recently he returned from the interior as he became very ill. According to a member of the House of Israel, Haynes was being treated for his illness but apparently became frustrated because of the prolonged ailment and decided to end his own life. After his return from the interior, Haynes was also hospitalized for a brief period.
The man’s body was found with a piece of rope tied around the neck and hanging from the tree in the House of Israel premises.
Following the discovery, the police were summoned to the area and the man was cut down and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary.
