Trevor Bailey, 19, of B Field, Sophia, was yesterday placed on $30,000 bail for allegedly robbing Shameer Rahim of $240. It is alleged that the accused, on September 6, being armed with a deadly weapon, robbed Shameer Rahim of $240.
Bailey pleaded not guilty to the charge. Rahim said that he was coming from the Masjid, at around5:00pm, when the accused and his two friends walked up to him and robbed him. Rahim said that after the robbery occurred, he went home and told his family what had happened. He said that his family went back to the scene and found the accused.
When acting Chief Magistrate asked whether the accused had anything to say, he told the court that it wasn’t him that committed the act.
Police prosecutor Denise Griffith asked that bail be denied, not because the virtual complainant was robbed of a small sum of money. Prosecutor Griffith pointed out that the accused used a deadly weapon and therefore placed the VC’s life in danger.
The young man was then placed on $ 30,000 bail. The matter is to reconvene on October 10.
