The boys at the office were “small-talking” and joking about Carifesta. One of them said that Guyana just won the rights to host the 2014 Olympics. Another one said that President Jagdeo will now automatically obtain a third term in office. A third fellow said that the man they killed last week was not Fineman it had to be somebody else.
It was then that the Peeper got serious and decided to put an end to the “nonsense gaff.” I knew the guys were just “small talking”; I knew there was not a grain of truth in any of the things they said.
But I had to warn them than we have a sucker for rumours and conspiracy theories within the Kaieteur News. There is this guy that if on a bright sunny day you told him that it would be a rainy day and all because of the PPP, he would believe you.
This guy is a sucker for a tall tale and it seems that of recent he has been inventing some of his own to convince himself that the PPP is incapable of achieving any success.
This guy’s name is Freddie Kissoon, and this is one guy whom you can tell any fanciful story. So long as it is against the PPP he is going to believe it. And if he finds that he cannot get enough of those stories from his so-called sources, he is wont to invent versions to suit his purposes.
This has to be the only logical explanation to explain that mischievous article he wrote yesterday. The Joint Services have painstaking, diligent and risky investigative work in which all of those involved placed their lives on the line, and finally were able to get Guyana’s Most Wanted criminal, Rondell Rawlins also known as Fineman.
This entire nation breathed a collective sigh of relief upon learning that Fineman had been killed. However, for Freddie, the elimination of Fineman had the possibility of being seen as a success for the government.
After all, this rascal was on the run for eight years and was fingered in a number of crimes, and believed to have been the point man in the Agricola- Buxton gang which had brought so much bloodshed and pain to this country.
For Freddie, there could be no relief since the PPP government was likely to gain some credit and the resentment that he harbours for the PPP would not allow him to give the PPP any credit.
So here he comes now with an Anancy story that Fineman may not have been involved in so many crimes; that Fineman may not have even been involved in the Lusignan massacre and even worse that the Lindo Creek killings may not have been Fineman’s handiwork.
He, of course, knows fully well that the newspaper in which he writes for got a call from Fineman. Freddie knows this fully well because Uncle Adam also spoke to the wanted man and Uncle Adam knew Fineman’s voice having previously met and spoken to Fineman on the Buxton line top in 2005.
For Freddie to now say that he was told by a security source that the call could not have been from Fineman is downright malicious. How come he never shared this information from his source before? How come he never wrote dismissing the call?
He also hints that he met with the owner of the mining camp and from what he was told it would be difficult to see how Fineman and his gang were responsible for the Lindo Creek massacre. If he believed that then, how come he kept quiet all the time? Or is it only because he is trying to douse the elation caused by the elimination of Fineman that he is now spreading his mischief.
Of course, as a purveyor of nothing more than “Anancy stories”, he was bound to put his feet in his mouth. This he did when he concocted the story that he learnt that long before the Lusignan massacre that Fineman was estranged from his pregnant girlfriend.
I do not know where Freddie Kissoon lives but it certainly cannot be in Guyana. The facts are clear. It was only days after her disappearance from a minibus park in the city that the Lusignan massacre took place. If Freddie however has information that Fineman’s girlfriend was estranged from him for sometime he should provide that information. Of course that would not be far-fetched because why would the girl be on the run if the relationship was okay.
And, if as Freddie claims, Fineman may not have been responsible for the things that he was accused of, how come he did not try to indicate this to the media? After all in 2005 he was concerned enough about what was being written about him that he made contact with Uncle Adam.
In the frame of mind that Freddie is in, he is going to believe anything that is told to him so long as it can be used to put the government in a bad light. In fact, word in Kaieteur News is that Freddie is claiming that Fineman may not have fathered his girlfriend’s child. It would not be surprising if the basis of this conclusion by Freddie is because the baby was chubby when she was born and Freddie may have concluded that no fine man could seed a chubby baby.
