The Fogarty’s Department Store, a member of the Laparkan Group of Companies, yesterday hosted yet another set of Carifesta delegates on the ground floor of the store.
Performers of literary arts and music, representing the Caribbean Rastafarian Organisation (CRO), from Antigua & Barbuda, and Toronto, Canada were special guests of the commercial entity.
To the accompaniment of music played live on drums, the artistes recited numerous poems and chantings related to the Rastafarian culture and social aspects of Caribbean life.
Ras Kiyode Epasto, of Antigua &Barbuda, rendered some poems, whilst his compatriot, Kush David, depicted various aspects of Caribbean culture, history, and the faith of the Rastafarian movement.
The Toronto representative, Ras Leon Saul, in an inspiring speech dedicated to Jamaica’s national hero, Marcus Garvey, and Guyana’s Cuffy, paid tribute to the outstanding achievements of those two early Caribbean patriots.
He afterwards did poems and songs based on the lives and times of the two heroes.
Head of Laparkan, Mr. Vibert Parvattan, welcomed the artistes and told the gathering that his company “welcomes the guests to Carifesta.” He added that his company is always ready to play an integral role in the cultural life of this country.
The event also saw the distribution of gift hampers to various participants and members of the audience.
