Yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, two men, Warren Kelly and Hamilton Christopher, were both charged with having in their possession, 232 grams of cannabis sativa, for the purpose of trafficking in narcotics, at 36 First Avenue Bartica, on August 25. They both pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Kelly was slapped with another charge, that of having in his possession 170½ grams of cannabis. He pleaded not guilty to that charge also.
The number one accused (Kelly) told the court that Christopher was no way involved with the incident, but the police just dragged him into the matter. Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, before whom the men appeared, said that she would not allow the particulars of the case to be heard. She told Kelly that he needs to voice his concerns with the magistrate in Bartica.
Police Prosecutor objected to bail and asked that the matter be transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s court. The matter is to reconvene on September 02.
