A Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust resident was remanded yesterday for allegedly robbing a policeman at gunpoint on July 30.
The victim, Brinsley Adonis, a member of the Guyana Police Force, alleged that he was robbed by Nigel Mc Calman.
The virtual complainant (VC) said that he was approaching his home on Leopold Street when the incident occurred. Adonis claims that he was relieved of one Rolex wrist watch valued at $5000, one cell phone valued at $62,000 and $3,300 in cash.
Mc Calman told the court in his defence that he usually sells drugs to the VC. He went on to tell the court that he did not know that the man was a police.
The accused even insisted that the police return to the scene of the alleged crime to conduct an investigation to determine whether indeed a crime was committed on the VC.
Police prosecutor Denise Griffith told the court that bail should be denied due to the seriousness of the crime. Bail was denied by Magistrate Priya Beharry. The accused is to make his second appearance on September 19.
