DEAR EDITOR,
I wish to record my joy and pride to the fact that our beloved Guyana is the host of CARIFESTA 2008.
It is a period of great opportunity for us as a country and people.
Enormous business opportunities exist, with the chance to showcase our cultures, our religions, our peoples.
This is a special call for Guyanese of all walks of life to behave their very best. Those in the market and vegetable areas that have tendencies to scream and curse at the top of their voices must stop now!!
Those in neighbourhoods, with neighbours quarrelling, and children fighting, need to guard themselves and their children so that we come out in the eyes of visitors to our country, as mature, decent and always hospitable. Please Guyanese, stop urinating in the streets and highways!!
This is one of the most atrocious and despicable behaviour one can find, with big men stopping their bicycles and vehicles, almost anywhere and urinating. Even in the market place, while going to funerals, weddings and so on.
I believe these people need to be jailed for a few days to teach them some sense and to drive fear. The pickpockets and criminal elements must put their nefarious trade to an immediate halt.
Anyone found robbing or harassing our tourists must be sentenced to long and the harshest punishment possible.
Fellow Guyanese, we all as a people must help to make CARIFESTA in Guyana, the best it has ever been anywhere. Roshan Khan
