Former West Indies batsman Keith Semple will be among the past and present
National cricketers who will be in action from noon today at the DCC ground as players from the ‘Old School’ match skills with the present crop in a feature 35-over affair between Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC).
Today’s match is one of the many planned activities for DCC’s centennial celebrations and former Test off-spinner Clyde Butts, who will be the guest player in the MSC side, will be in action for the first time since becoming the new Chairman of the West Indies selection panel.
Semple, who turns 38 on August 21 and played seven ODIs for the West Indies against South Africa in 1999, is home on holiday and many of players from the ‘Old School’ who played with and against him during the 1980s and 1990s will also be on show today.
The home team also includes 36-year-old former Guyana off-spinner Garvin Nedd who captured 29 wickets from 14 first-class matches between 1995 and 2000 while national 20/20 all-rounder Christopher Barnwell is among the present national players in the DCC line-up.
Thirty-five-year-old former West Indies ‘B’ team Keeper Kenneth Wong, who
had 47 dismissals from 23 first-class games between 1992 and 1998, is in the MSC line-up which will be captained by former Guyana under-19 batsman Shawn Holder.
West Indies under-19 Vice-Captain Steven Jacobs and National 20/20 player Orin Ford are the present Nationals in the MSC side which also include former Guyana youth off-spinner Sean Devers, who represented both Demerara and Berbice at the senior inter-county level.
Former National under-19 left-arm spinner Bevon Butts and Semple’s brother Winston, the former Demerara youth batsman, are also in the MSC squad which also includes Shemroy Barrington, former Demerara Keeper Troy Lewis and ex-Guyana under-15 bowlers Dennis Legay and Seon Daniels.
Former Guyana youth batsman Alfred Mentore, Ex-Demerara medium pacer Edward Burnett, veteran all-rounder Andre Legall, Orin Bailey, Sherlock Atwell and Lyndon Lyght are all a part of the DCC side.
