Cougars recorded the largest margin of victory, an 8-1 whipping of Brazilla at the Rosignol ground when rivalry in the Berbice Football Association (BFA) sponsored Coca Cola senior league kicked on.
The win, which was orchestrated by joint top goal scorers of the league Winston Benjamin and Horace Roache with a hat-trick each, also secures Cougars’ pole position with 13 points, 3 more than 2nd placed New Amsterdam United (NAU).
There was one each for Stephon De Florimonte and G. Tappin. Brazilla’s consolation goal came off the boot of their captain, Hemchand ‘Danny’ Karamchand.
In the main clash, home team Rosignol won only for the 2nd time in the league and it was by the walk over route, bottom of the table Paradise Invaders failing to make an appearance.
In the first game played at the Number 5 playfield, New Amsterdam United blanked Real Union 2-0. Sherlone Edwards in the 22nd minute and Kelvin Joseph in the 56th were the players on target.
Defending champions Monedderlust playing the feature match, hammered Corentyne 4-0. Gladwin Johnson netted a double (29 & 50) with one each for Kenson Lindey (59) and Trevis Henry (75).
Meanwhile, due to this weekend Digicel Caribbean Championship no matches will be played.
