DEAR EDITOR,
The way our law and order functions is definitely one, and finding a sober reason why some people in position of authority do what they do is another.
Often times, the things that we see make a mockery and joke of the law, which must be diligently adhered to by ordinary citizens, while it is brazenly disregarded by some.
The campaign against loud music from boom boxes in minibuses and heavily tinted wind screens and windows in vehicles is nothing more than ‘Nancy story’.
Everywhere you turn the buses are even louder in lewd music than before the campaign started; the music can be heard a mile away!
They travel to and fro with traffic cops on the beat, and nothing is done to stop them; even the cops travel daily in them, well overloaded!
But what can you expect when the police who must enforce law/order set no example. Take for instance this Linden happening: A policeman drives around in a vehicle with windscreen and windows black as tar, with music resonating at the highest decibel.
Now, one is at a lost to figure out how a member of the discipline force can behave so irresponsible, oblivious to all and sundry.
Be it school, church or hospital zone, the music is a constant high. I was told that he even drives into the police compound no different, to the disgust of some officers.
But why is it he is not being upbraided by his seniors? As one rank commented “I does can’t tek wha he does do”. Is it any wonder that our society is disintegrating and falling apart?
So reckless driving, over speeding, boom music, heavily tinted vehicles, over loading are only fussed about whenever something dreadful/fatal occurs, then is soon forgotten. It is nothing more but a Nancy story – end of story. Frank Fyffe
