Digicel hosted a successful one-day clinic at the GCC ground Bourda yesterday which attracted over 40 aspiring footballers including one female all the way from Marouka.
Marketing Executive Shirwin Campbell said they were very pleased with the turn out and the enthusiasm and interest shown by the players especially the lone female, Amanda Atkinson who said she was very happy to be a part of the clinic.
“This is the first time I am playing football but when I return to my village I will be encouraging other females to play the sport.”
Conducting the clinic were members of the ‘Golden Jaguars’ based in Guyana and they too expressed delight at being able to impart some of their knowledge to the young players.
Among the areas dealt with were passing, shooting, receiving the ball with their foot, chest and head. They players were also involved in interactive sessions with the coaches and also played some small sided games.
They were all presented with certificates of participation at the conclusion of the hectic clinic.
Campbell said that the programme formed part of Digicel’s commitment towards developing the minds of young players in a balanced way towards the sport and life in general.
Meanwhile, about eight T&T based ‘Golden Jaguars’ including Technical Director Jamaal Shabazz were expected in Guyana yesterday. These players along with some locals will be encamped at the Main Street Plaza from this evening.
