The West Indies may be down in the dumps in international cricket but it has a batsman on top of the world.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul is leading the International Cricket Council’s batting rankings for the first time in his career — without having even played recently.
He has dislodged Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara who had a poor return in a test innings against India last week.
But Chanderpaul’s stay at the summit may be brief depending on Sangakkara performance in the second Test, starting on Thursday.
Chanderpaul averaged 91 against Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka in the past 12 months. (BBC)
