Pharmacy body makes donation to vulnerable children
The International Pharmaceutical Agency (IPA) yesterday donated some $200,000 worth of ‘Perfect’ Baby Diapers, to the Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s (OVC) Programme, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Guyana HIV/AIDS Reduction and Prevention (GHARP) Project.
Deonarine Etwaroo, the Managing Director of IPA, handed over the donation of the diapers to Lisa Thompson, the Senior Programme Officer of USAID. Etwaroo explained that it was IPA’s way of helping in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Guyana.
The OVC Programme targets children who are affected by HIV/AIDS all over Guyana. Thompson explained that the diapers will be redistributed to nine Faith-Based and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
These various organizations are currently and will continue to be lending assistance to approximately 950 affected children all over the country, including various parts of the Essequibo Coast, Bartica, Berbice and Georgetown.
As she accepted the contribution, Thompson expressed gratitude on behalf of OVC and USAID/GHARP, and said it is very heartening to see the degree and the level of support the fight against HIV/AIDS is receiving from both the public and private sectors in Guyana.
