Amidst disappointment over her non–selection to represent Guyana at the World Junior Championships next week, middle distance queen Alika Morgan had something to smile about yesterday morning in Eping Avenue, Bel Air Park.
The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) presented the top junior athlete with its latest mobile ‘Bird’ phone at an unveiling ceremony at Roraima Inn for her most recent achievement in the CARICOM 10K race.
Morgan won her fourth consecutive race in Antigua recently, which made her the most successful Caribbean athlete at that event. She was hoping to crown that off with a trip to Poland for the World Junior meet.
However, the Athletics Association of Guyana dashed those hopes when they selected the improbable Oslyn Collins ahead of Morgan. This year marks the end of the middle distance prodigy’s junior career.
