It is a real shame what some of the officers of the AAG are doing to the athletes of this country.
I have, over the years, been exposed to the incompetence and vindictiveness of some members of this body and after some investigations and information gathering, I have come to the conclusion that Mr. Claude Blackmore and his clique of servants have no ambition or desire to serve our athletes.
Unfortunately, our athletes are seemingly powerless as they are constantly being betrayed by some of their own executives who lose their direction and unfortunately join the clique for the hand out benefits.
It is now time, and I am appealing to the other respectable sporting bodies, to openly join me in denouncing Mr. Blackmore and his clique and to let them know how disgusted we are of them.
I was so delighted to see Mr. Ivor O’Brien, of the Guyana Olympic Association, venting his feeling to the press on the AAG’s selection of Oslyn Collins to the World Junior Championships.
I now wish to add my voice in saying that “there can be no way that the AAG’s choice of Miss Collins can be justified over Alika Morgan and the others Miss Morgan mentioned.” Mr. O’Brien is kindly calling this a “blunder”.
My call is “incompetence of the highest order.” Furthermore, in solidarity with Alika Morgan and in the interest of the future of athletics, Miss Collins should turn down or be asked to turn down the offer to go to the World Junior Championships.
She would save herself and Guyana some embarrassment if she were to be asked to explain herself being chosen to attend these championships.
Until now, I had always hoped that Mr. Blackmore and his clique would some day come to realize that their real purpose as executives of the AAG is to serve and develop the sport of athletics and not only about trips and bullyism of our athletes.
This obviously is not forthcoming and it is now time for them to resign, get out and stay out of sport administration. Colin Ming (Ardent sport lover and athlete supporter)
