The female cricketers who were selected to represent Guyana in the Regional tournament, which is scheduled to be played in Jamaica in August, are going through their paces in the respective counties.
Kaieteur Sports caught up with the group from Berbice who are being taken through their drills by Guyana Cricket Board Head coach Michael Hyles.
Hyles disclosed that the girls are very enthusiastic about the sessions which are being held at various venues in the county depending on their availability mainly due to the inclement weather.
He said that the main venues being used are the Republic Bank court in New Street New Amsterdam and the Berbice Cricket Board tarmac and office where the theoretical aspect of the work is done.
Eight females were initially selected from Berbice – Tracy Miller, Tremaine Smartt, Shemaine Campbell, Jacqueline Singh, Sabrina Munroe, Katana Mentor, Natasha Gangoo and Erva Giddings.
Seven girls are attending the session Gangoo has since pulled out because of personal commitments.
Sessions are held on a daily basis from 15:00 and from 09:00 hrs on Saturdays and Sundays.
They are being thought the various aspects of cricket which includes the various aspects of batting, bowling, catching, fielding, and wicketkeeping, along with throwing and running between the wickets.
The girls are also taught various aerobics drills. The experienced coach said that the drills are mainly being used to help with their strength training.
Hyles said that the girls have improved tremendously since they sessions started a few weeks ago.
The main reason for the training camps is to keep them fit and focused on what they have to do and ready for the national camp which will commence in July.
