The GCC ‘A’ men’s team extended their unbeaten run to join club mates GCC ‘B’ on top of the men’s competition by handing Old Fort ‘A’ their first loss of the competition, while Everest ‘A’ picks up the third spot.
The Everest Hikers ladies upstaged the Spartans of GCC to lead the points table in the ladies competition.
The GCC ‘A’ men’s team and archrivals Old Fort ‘A’ collided in one of their usual high-paced duels on Tuesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as the GHB Warm-Up Indoor Hockey Tournament resumed.
After an evenly fought opening eight minutes of play, GCC’s Alan Fernandes broke the deadlock by converting a Kevin Spencer pass with a powerful flick past Tony Cole in the Old Fort goal.
Old Fort equalised just one minute later as Dexter Wyles registered with a diving effort off a blazing counter-attack.
It would be all GCC in the second half however as the Bourda boys slammed in two more through Dwayne Scott and Patrick Edghill to secure the 3-1 victory and top points on the table.
Everest Hikers ‘A’ exacted revenge for their B team counterparts loss on the previous evening by obliterating the Carib Degenerates by a whooping 24 – 2 in what may have been the longest 40 minutes experienced for most of the Degenerates.
The Hikers usual clinical finishing was led by Robert France with 9 followed by Jerry Bell – 6, Randy Hope – 5, Devin Munroe – 3 and a lone goal from Alex Gouveia.
The Western Dragons/Police men’s match ended in the Dragons favour at 7 goals to 4 with Adrian Sampson scoring a hat-trick for the Dragons and teammates Deon Carew, Deon Branford, Selwyn Brandt and Andel Sampson scoring one each.
The Police goals were scored by Rockwell Scarder, R. Lyte, Kevin Fogenay and Rawle Haynes.
The GCC ’B’ enjoyed another successful evening winning both their matches.
They defeated Old Fort ‘B’ by 6-1 through a double by Andrew Xavier and single goals from Leonard George, Errol Tappin and brothers, Stuart and Zack Gonsalves. Xavier would rack up another 6 goals against the Everest ‘B’ later in the evening in GCC’s 9-1 routing of Everest with Zack Gonsalves, Leonard George and Errol Tappin adding one a piece. The diminutive Andrew Stuart managed one goal in the Hikers effort.
The lone ladies match saw the Everest Hikers getting the better of the GCC Spartans by 2-0. The Hikers scored one in each half through nationals Avonda James and Cora Towler.
GCC ‘B’ tops the men’s pool with 7 points from three games followed by their senior counterparts GCC ‘A’ on 6 from two games.
The Everest Hikers ‘A’ holds third place in the pool with 4 points from two games while Old Fort ‘A’, Western Dragons and Carib Degenerates have three points each. Cellar dwellers Police, Everest ‘B’ and Old Fort ‘B’ are yet to earn points.
In the ladies competition the Everest Hikers top the table with 3 points from one match while the GCC Spartans have 0 points and the GCC Tigers are yet to play.
