DEAR EDITOR,
I was horrified to learn of how 15-year-old Shelisha Khan was brutally gang raped, bludgeoned and shot after which her body was dumped on the Hope Estate Access Road.
It is heart rending to imagine her last few minutes alive and how horrific and heinous it was.
Over the past few days there was much debate, speculation and outcries in the media as it relates to Shelisha Khan’s integrity, moral standing, family back ground and her alleged habits among others.
I might agree that some of these traits might have contributed to the way she meet her demise.
However, I would emphatically state, there could never be any form of justification for this inhumane, brutal, merciless and sadistic act.
Those who are found guilty should be made to face the full force of the law; they must be meted with the severest of punishment. No form of violence against women and children should be tolerated in our society. We must condemn, identify and report all forms of abuse and violence.
Reading the headlines of the past few days we see how many acts of violence are perpetrated against women. Not only are these acts physically excruciating but they leave a traumatised and mentally scarred individual for life.
I would urge the Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and women groups to continue their campaign against violence and where possible increase their surveillance and interventions. Ronald Harsawack
