A 20-year-old man was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with unlawful wounding. The accused, Donald Clarke, appeared before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on June 14 last, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Sudamay Clarke with intent to maim or disfigure. Clarke pleaded not guilty.
The court was told that the man who resides at 2034 Hummingbird Street, South Ruimveldt, is a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital’s psychiatric ward.
Police Prosecutor Sherwin Matthews informed the court that the virtual complainant in the matter is the man’s mother. The court was told that the woman, who was stabbed several times about her body, is currently hospitalized.
The prosecution added that on the day in question the man and his mother had a misunderstanding and he attacked the woman on the road. The woman was picked up and rushed to the hospital by public spirited citizens.
The accused is expected to make his next court appearance on July 4.
