At least six ranks of the Guyana Police Force were yesterday rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital following an accident at Airy Hall, Mahaicony.
Those injured are Sergeant Arlington Smith, Constable Shawn Mc Phoy, Constable Lawrence Layne, Constable Nandram Miram, Constable Gilbert London and another only identified as Constable Bhavegeims.
Reports are that around 10:00 hours yesterday the incident occurred while the ranks were on their way to Berbice to relieve another team of police ranks who were on duty. While reports are still sketchy, this newspaper understands that while in the vicinity of Airy Hall, Mahaicony the vehicle, which reportedly has a history of mechanical problems, began swaying out of control.
Sources say Mc Phoy, who was the driver of the vehicle, was then forced to run off the road in order to prevent crashing into oncoming traffic.
The ranks were all rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were treated. Up to press time yesterday only three of the ranks, Constable Nandram Miram, Constable Gilbert London and Constable Shawn Mc Phoy, were treated and sent away. The others were still receiving medical attention.
