Five men were yesterday each released on $300,000 bail after they were charged for stealing some $11M worth of fuel from SOL Guyana Inc.
The five men, Ivan Cameron, Damian Hunter, Surendra Ramchandra, Terrence McIntosh and Andre Mohammed, were charged with simple larceny. They appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
It is alleged that, on Friday April 25, they stole 57,000 litres of fuel, worth $11M, from the gas company. They all pleaded not guilty.
SOL Guyana Inc. was represented by Facility Supervisor Orville Fraser. Bail was not objected to by the prosecution, as the men’s respective lawyers made bail applications.
Their lawyers asked that bail be granted in a reasonable sum, and reference was made to the NBS fraud case, where an even larger amount of cash was defrauded from the company.
Police Prosecutor Sherwin Matthew pointed out to the court that investigators have since managed to recover $200,000 and $300,000 in cash on separate occasions.
The men are to make their next court appearance on May 30, in Court Six.
