Kaieteur News – The United States of America (U.S.) Embassy in Guyana on Friday gifted the Palms Rehabilitation Centre a 17-seat passenger bus valued at US$25,000 (G$5.2M).
The bus was handed over to the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.
In a statement to the media, the Embassy said that “in the spirit of partnership and goodwill between Guyana and the United States, the United States Embassy in Georgetown donated one 17-seat passenger bus to the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, valued at of $25K USD ($5.2M GYD).”
U.S. Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah-Ann Lynch and Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, participated in an official handover ceremony at the Palms Rehabilitation Centre, Brickdam.
According to the Embassy, the donation, was made through the Department of Defense Humanitarian Assistance Program and will support the transportation for the elderly, as well as others with limited mobility.
“The U.S. Embassy is pleased to contribute to the social services offered by the Government of Guyana to senior citizens who have contributed immensely to its development,” the Embassy said.
