Kaieteur News – Moths are nocturnal creatures that resemble dark coloured butterflies without the clubbed antennae. A mysterious one was discovered in 2009, in neigbouring Venezuela.

Scientists have named the creature, the Venezuela Poodle Moth and the name speaks for itself. The moth looks like a white mini-poodle dog with wings. According to the scientists, it is a new species of alien-looking moth that has poodle-like fur covering its head, thorax, abdomen and even its wings.
To add to the mystery, it was the only poodle moth ever found and it was photographed in the Canaima National Park, Gran Sabana, Venezuela, by Kyrgyzstani zoologist Dr. Arthur Anker.
As a result, scientists were unable to study the creature and properly classify it. Based on the photos taken by the Zoologist, scientist estimates that the moth measures about 2.5 centimeters in length.
Many confuse the creature with images of the domestic silk moth native to China but its appearance is much more unique and unusual. Following its discovery many scientists made subsequent expeditions to Venezuela to find the creature, but have been unable to spot it again.
The region where it was found is home to diverse habitat types, including moist forest and high rock plateus known as tepuis.
