Time to walk the talk

Kaieteur News – It cannot be business as usual for the Government or the minister embroiled in the damming and revolting sexual allegations by a female teen student.  The minister, if he has nothing to fear and is a person of worth, should step aside, on his own volition, to allow a clear and unhindered investigation.

Reports circulating suggest the victim is from the indigenous section of the population (KN June 17).and the teen is flip flopping on the levelled allegations (Demerarawaves June 16). The indigenous community is still reeling from the horrific Mahdia fire, in which nineteen female teenage students horribly died, and several were injured, to be visited now with this sordid account involving another of its female teen.

Further, the perceived flip flopping should not prevent a full out investigation as the despicable details are out in the public domain.

This episode will not go away and it is time to walk the talk on ‘nothing that is disrespectful to girls and women will be tolerated’.

It would be recalled that a prime minister was forced from office and recently resigned as an MP over a partygate scandal.

The constant rolling from one scandal to another damages the image of the government, and the perception already out there is that this is a continuation of past situations.  It’s a new day, same story, different players.
