Kaieteur News – The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Two on Thursday signed three contracts totalling $53.4 million for the upgrading of two roads and the construction of a revetment in the Region.
The contracts were signed by the Region’s Regional Executive Officer (REO) Susanah Saywack under the RDC’s capital works programme.
Of the three contracts, the RDC signed one with R.I.V.A Investment for the construction of a revetment at Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast. This contract, which is worth $31.9 million, is expected to be completed within four months.
As for the road works, the REO signed a contract totalling $10.7 million with A. Bacchus Contracting and Trucking Service for the upgrading of Tomesh Street, Windsor Castle.
This project, the RDC said will see the construction of a new concrete structure coupled with concrete drains on both sides, and the construction of walkways to allow for easy access for the residents. This project is expected to be completed within three months.
Finally, a $10.8 million contract was signed for the upgrading of Second Cross Street Old Housing Scheme, Charity. The project which was awarded to Golden Key Construction and Supply is expected to be completed within three months. This project will see the street upgraded using concrete which will allow residents better access to their homes.
The signing of the contracts was witnessed by Regional Engineer, Mr. Kawan Suchit, Civil Engineer, Mr. Harindra Nandalall, Engineer from Anna Regina Town Council, Mr. Brian Alves and Superintendent of Roads, Mr. Saywack Persaud. The RDC noted that in the coming weeks more contracts are expected to be signed for infrastructural works.
