$2.8B in contracts signed for Region Three
Kaieteur News – The Government of Guyana (GoG) on Wednesday signed 58 contracts for road works across Region Three for a total cost of $2.8 billion.
The roads will be constructed in Parfaite Harmonie, Rec Dor Zee, Cornelia Ida, Vergenoegen, Hubu, Naamyrck, De Kindren, Meten-Meer-Zorg, Zeelugt, De Willem, Ruby Backdam, Leonora, Den Amstel, Blankenburg, Anna Catherina, Zeelandia (Wakenaam), West Minister, Stanleytown, Onderneeming and Bendoff to Maripa.

In the coming months, the communities will be enhanced with the construction of rigid pavement and asphaltic concrete-surfaced roads, the Department of Public Information has said. Speaking at a contract signing ceremony, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar Minister noted the projects will overhaul many community roads that are in a state of disrepair.
The DPI reported that the contractors, many of whom are relatively new to the industry, lauded the bidding process and are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their communities. One such contractor was Jason Atkins, who said the bidding process was a smooth one. “I think the government is giving a lot of small contractors like me a fair chance to get into the system by tendering and ensuring that we have our registration intact so that we can qualify.”
Another contractor, Neil Dookhan noted, “Putting in the bids was very simple. Once you follow the simple procedure, it is very simple. I’m glad I got a contract. I did try, and I finally got one, and I’m very happy about that.”
