Kaieteur Sports – The President of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee has issued a statement that preparations are moving along smoothly for this Sunday’s One Guyana Breeders Cup Horse race Meet. Although the facilities at the Bush lot United Turf Club are theirs, the JJTRC has plans to continue its earth works to ensure patrons are treated to seating and an elevated view. Well known businessman Nasrudeen Mohamed, who resides in Bush Lot area, contributed significantly to the refurbishment of the all-weather track through the introduction of a new aggregate mix design and irrigation system.
The seating area or stands, which were originally built for the facility, was torn down because of structural damage due to the wood being rotten. Similar to the previous race held at the same facility, the JJTRC will provide fabricated metal stands and trailers so patrons can enjoy an aerial view of the entire track.
Four trailers would be brought in and placed alongside the track where the stands originally were. The trailers would be covered to provide much needed shelter from the sun and a quantity of chairs would be available for additional comfort.
When contacted Mr. Mohamed explained, “A venture of this size and nature has to be collaborative one. We need to see more corporate support for Horse Racing, because we often forget the amount of jobs and revenue that is created through horseracing. This is a community facility with room for major advancement and I Jumbo can only do so much. How many more successful businesses are there in Bush Lot who are in a position to contribute. The facility needs urgent work done for the patrons seating, washrooms and parking. After this interview I hope the Bush Lot United Turf Club can receive a couple calls with businesses pledging support for the upliftment of the sport and the facility.”
