(Kaieteur News) – A 15-year-old girl ran away while in the care of the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) on Monday night and up to press time Thursday she was still missing, according to a close relative.
The family member, speaking with Kaieteur News, said she has no knowledge of the teenager’s where abouts but strongly suspects that another woman, whom she identified as the child’s paternal aunt, may have information about where she is.
The relative explained that, based on what she has gathered from various sources, her daughter was not the only one who escaped from the CPA. Instead, she believes that several other girls left the facility at the same time, raising further concern about the circumstances surrounding the incident and the safety of the missing children.
Minister of Human Services and Social Security Vindhya Persaud could not be reached for comment. “The officer dealing with the matter keeps reaching out to me. They are looking for her. They didn’t tell me how she managed to run away,” the relative shared.
Leader of the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP) Simona Broomes, in a video on her Facebook yesterday, said it is unacceptable to have children running away from state care.
“It’s not one time, two times; this is something happening all the time. Something needs to be done to protect them,” she expressed.
