(Kaieteur News) – The Embassy of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana in Brussels has announced that Guyana has been elected Regional Coordinator of Caribbean Diplomatic Missions in Brussels, a key sub-regional grouping within the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
The leadership role will see Guyana, under the guidance of Ambassador Sasenarine Singh, coordinating Caribbean diplomatic engagement with European institutions and advancing the region’s priorities within the OACPS framework.
Guyana will also chair the Caribbean Ministerial Caucus of the OACPS ahead of the 121st Session of the Council of Ministers, scheduled for July 7-9, 2026 under the leadership of Foreign Affair Minister Hugh Todd as Guyana continues to offer regional leadership in advancing the collective interests of the Caribbean in the European Union.
According to a press release by the embassy, the OACPS is an intergovernmental organisation comprising countries from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific that work together to promote sustainable development, economic cooperation, and stronger political partnerships, particularly with the European Union. Established in 1975 through the Georgetown Agreement, the organisation holds special significance for Guyana as a founding member and the birthplace of the original ACP partnership, which later evolved into the OACPS.
As part of efforts to strengthen relations with the European Union, the CARIFORUM Group of Ambassadors in Brussels, under the chairmanship of Ambassador Singh, met with Mr. Riccardo Rossi, Member of the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, on March 10, 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the priorities of the Directorate- General for International Partnerships, their relevance to the Caribbean, and opportunities to deepen cooperation between the Caribbean and the European Union.
Guyana remains committed to providing effective leadership in Brussels in support of CARIFORUM priorities and to strengthening the Caribbean’s partnership with the European Union within the framework of the OACPS.
