(Kaieteur News) – Demerara Bank Limited has announced the 10 winners of the 2025–2026 DBL Innovation Tank, bringing to a close months of inspiring competition, creativity, and entrepreneurial ambition that showcased the depth of talent and innovation emerging across Guyana.
Launched in September 2025 as part of the Bank’s G$10 million Corporate Social Responsibility commitment, the DBL Innovation Tank Programme was created to support early-stage businesses and startups by providing non-repayable grant funding, mentorship, and practical business development support, the bank said in a press release. Guided by the programme’s ethos “Dream. Build. Lead.”, the initiative aims to help entrepreneurs transform promising ideas into sustainable ventures capable of contributing to Guyana’s growing economy.
According to the bank, the response to the programme exceeded expectations, noting that more than 200 entrepreneurs from across Guyana submitted applications, each presenting ideas aimed at solving problems, creating opportunities and building new businesses. The bank said following a structured and transparent screening process, applications were carefully evaluated based on innovation, business viability, scalability, and their potential contribution to sustainable development in Guyana.
From this pool, 23 entrepreneurs were shortlisted and invited to participate in the programme’s development phase. During this stage, participants benefited from mentorship, technical training, and business guidance delivered by experienced professionals and partner organisations, including the Guyana Manufacturing & Services Association, the American Chamber of Commerce Guyana, and the Centre for Local Business Development. Through these partnerships, participants were also able to gain practical business insight and build valuable connections within the wider business community, strengthening their capacity to develop sustainable ventures.
The journey concluded on March 7, 2026, when the finalists presented their ideas on Pitch Day before a distinguished panel of judges comprising of banking experts. Each entrepreneur delivered thoughtful and passionate presentations, demonstrating the effort and dedication invested throughout the programme. The judges evaluated the pitches based on Clarity of Business Concept & Value Proposition, Innovation & Differentiation, Market Opportunity & Demand, Business Model & Revenue Strategy, Growth & Scalability Potential, Financial Understanding & Investment Readiness, Risk Awareness & Mitigation, Founder Capability & Leadership, Social & Community Impact, and Environmental Sustainability.
Representatives from Demerara Bank shared that the experience was both inspiring and encouraging. “We were truly impressed by the level of creativity, preparation, and determination displayed by the participants,” the Bank noted. “The ideas presented were thoughtful, innovative, and reflective of a new generation of entrepreneurs who are eager to contribute meaningfully to Guyana’s development.” After careful deliberation, the judging panel selected 10 ventures whose ideas demonstrated strong potential for growth and impact. Each winner will receive grant funding of G$1 million, along with continued mentorship, guidance, and opportunities to connect with networks that can help support the growth of their businesses.
Demerara Bank views the Innovation Tank as more than a competition. It represents a long-term commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and encouraging the development of small businesses that can grow, create employment, and contribute to a stronger and more diverse economy.
The Bank also expressed sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the programme a success. Gratitude was extended to the many applicants who shared their ideas, the participants who dedicated time and effort throughout the programme, the mentors and judges who offered their expertise, and the partner organisations that supported the initiative. Demerara Bank also congratulated the 23 finalists who reached the final stage of the programme and thanked the more than 200 entrepreneurs who applied, noting that their ideas and enthusiasm reflect the growing spirit of entrepreneurship across Guyana. Demerara Bank Limited remains committed to supporting national development through innovative financial services and meaningful community initiatives. Building on the success of this year’s programme, the Bank looks forward to the 2026–2027 DBL Innovation Tank and intends to continue expanding the initiative over time, with progressively increased allocations to support even more entrepreneurs in the years ahead.
