Kaieteur News – A vehicular accident on the No. 36 Public Road Corentyne, Berbice Sunday evening, has left a 22-year-old man dead and a parked vehicle badly damaged.
Dead is Lakhram Etwaroo of No. 35 Village Corentyne.
The fatal incident occurred at about 23:00 hours, involving motor car #PXX 9161 owned and driven by Sumesh James, a resident of Lot 1 West Public Road, #36 Village, and a parked motor car #PAE 7288 owned by 37-year-old Avinash Doodnauth, of Lot 2A, #36 Village, Corentyne.
Police investigations revealed that James was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the said road allegedly at a fast rate, with Etwaroo as a passenger, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, collided with a GPL utility pole and then into motor car #PAE 7288, which was parked on the eastern side of the road on a concrete bridge.
As a result, Etwaroo received injuries about his body and was removed from the vehicle by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
His body is currently at the Ramoo Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The driver, who fled the scene, was arrested and is assisting police with the investigations.
