(Kaieteur News) – An autopsy conducted on the body of 16-year-old Jodea Seline on Monday revealed that she suffered multiple skull fractures.
The Central Corentyne Secondary School student died Friday evening following a motor vehicle accident, on the No. 63 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to police, the examination was performed by government pathologist, Dr. Vivekanand Bridgemohan at Bailey’s Funeral Home, No. 4 Village, West Coast Berbice in the presence of police and family members.
Dr. Bridgemohan gave the cause of death as multiple skull fractures due to a motor vehicle accident. The body was subsequently handed over to relatives for burial.
Seline was in a minibus filled with schoolchildren who attended the regional inter- secondary schools’ athletic competition were badly injured when the vehicle toppled.
The teen from Limlair Village, Corentyne, succumbed to her injuries at the Number 75 Hospital. Her little sister was reportedly in the minibus at the time of the accident.
Several other passengers have been hospitalised. Reports are that the driver of the mini-bus is in a critical state at the hospital.
On Saturday, Jerome Bernard, a teacher of the Central Corentyne Secondary School also succumbed to his injuries.
Bernard was one of three persons listed as critical at the Number 75 Hospital. It is unclear whether Bernard was the driver of the minibus.
Police in a statement Saturday said that in addition to the 31-year-old driver, a 13-year-old female of Brighton Village and a 16-year-old female of Cromarty Village are listed as critical. The trio was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for treatment.
