(Kaieteur News) – A 48-year-old truck driver was on Saturday arrested after police found a quantity of cannabis and ammunition in the truck, he was driving at the police check point at 70 KM, Cuyuni, Region Seven.
The truck driver of Carmichael Street, Georgetown who attempted to pass the checkpoint, was stopped at about 06:10h by ranks who intercepted the vehicle bearing registration number GYY 2105.
A search of the driver and the truck was conducted. During the search, police said ranks found six bulky parcels inside two traveling bags, each containing 5.4 kilograms of seeds and stems.
“A further search uncovered a box which contained fifty (50) live rounds of suspected 9mm Luger ammunition,” police said.
Investigations are ongoing.
