(Kaieteur News) – Attorney General (AG), and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, SC, has denied the allegation of his involvement in money laundering.
The AG was forced to address the allegation after it was brought up by Team Mohameds.
In a Facebook post, Team Mohamed, led by leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Azruddin Mohamed, called out the Attorney General for his alleged involvement in money laundering through casinos in Guyana and Suriname.
The post was made shortly after Nandlall on his programme, ‘Issues in the News,’ addressed questions concerning Mohamed’s and his father, Nazar’ indictment by a grand jury in the United States for money laundering, gold smuggling and fraud.
In response, AG called out the party leader, noting that his views on the Mohameds, were, factual and legal, and not personal.
The AG explained, “They were made in response to questions from numerous reporters of various press outfits in the country. I spoke not a word about or concerning money laundering. I own, neither wholly nor in part, any casino operations in Guyana or Suriname. I am not in partnership with any person or entity.”
The Attorney General explained further that his friend, whom he believes is being described as his ‘business partner’, was indeed questioned once by US law enforcement authorities at an airport in the United States.
“I am informed that many of the questions related to whether he had any business relationship with the Mohameds. He answered in the negative. I have no reason to doubt him,” Nandlall stated.
