Kaieteur News – Ten-year-old Jeremiah Solomon, who was shot by his father in a tragic murder-suicide that claimed his mother’s life, has been discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and is recovering well.
On August 26, 36-year-old Teekadai Atiya Solomon was executed by her 36-year-old husband Alroy Solomon and later shot their son in his abdomen. The husband had opened fire on the mother and son at Teekadai’s Charlotte and Bourda Streets home, before turning the gun on himself.
Previous police report stated that the 10-year-old was picked up by public-spirited persons and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he received medical attention. His condition during that time was listed as stable.
Just last week, the young Solomon was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital. This was confirmed on Friday by acting Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean, and GPHC Public Relations Officer Stacy Peters, during an interview with Kaieteur News.
“The young man has been discharged. He is out of the hospital,” McBean stated. Peters also confirmed that the discharge took place last week. Additionally, a relative of the late Teekadai Solomon reported that Jeremiah is recovering well.
According to police, Teekadai and Alroy once resided at North East La Penitence along with their son. However, due to domestic issues, the woman moved out about two months ago and was living at Lot 199 Charlotte and Bourda Streets, Georgetown, with her son. On Tuesday August 26, at around 11:50hrs, the victim was at her apartment with her son, when the suspect showed up in the area in a black motor vehicle bearing registration number GUY 94 and parked in front of the apartment building.
According to reports, Alroy exited the vehicle and ran into the compound, after which the woman was heard screaming, followed by several suspected gunshots. Teekadai ran out of the yard and was followed by the suspect, who discharged several rounds at her, causing her to fall to the ground.
The suspect subsequently returned to the yard where he discharged a round at his 10-year-old son, hitting him in his left lower chest. Alroy then used the same firearm and shot himself in the head.
Police relayed that the woman’s body was examined and several gunshot injuries were seen. Teekadai was reportedly shot twice in her right abdomen, once on her right index finger, once on her left arm, twice in her chest, twice in her forehead, once in her right hip and once on her right leg.
Alroy was found in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his temple area.
